Chinese Sencha

Sencha green tea is traditionally produced in Japan, but our Chinese Sencha is a distinctive green tea that reflects its Japanese processing and Chinese terroir at a price far lower than your average Sencha. Dry and wet, its flat leaves have a mossy, mineral aroma. The pale, clear, apple green brew has a mild aroma akin to the Spanish-moss-strews swamps of Louisiana. Its flavor is light, refreshing, nutty and almost minty, with delicate vegetal and mineral undertones. An aftertaste that’s green and clean hints at the grassier flavor of the second infusion. Try our Chinese Sencha with simple, light foods like steamed brown rice, fresh apples, or a clear-broth vegetable soup.

Tea to Water Ratio 1:1. If you prefer a stronger flavor, use up to two grams of tea for each cup of water.

Water: Filtered water is best. 180ºF (simmering with tiny bubbles)

Traditional Steeping: 1 to 3 minutes

Flash Steeping: First, we run warm water over the tealeaves and pour it off very quickly. This removes any impurities and “awakens” the tealeaves for brewing. Then, we steep the tea – 10 to 25 seconds.

missed the mark

This tastes a lot like the bags from the grocery store. I get the mossy swamp from the description, also cardboard. I wanted to like this one, but it just doesn't measure up to the japanese sechas I have enjoyed in the past.

Who Needs Japanese Sencha?

Fair price? Absolutely! The flavor is right there with any medium grade Japanese Sencha and I can buy so much more of it.
